Artventure:
This was painted as my first Live Painting performance called A Taste of Culture! She was intended to be a replica of 'Leave Me Alone', her practice twin. I loved seeing the similarities and differences of my own work come to life!You born alone' is the attitude-filled response often used by Dominican children when their sibling, cousin or friend would tell them to 'Leave me alone'. It's like shaming the person for wanting to be alone but also trying to make them feel like they have no friends , that they were born alone and will always be alone. 'I born alone' was another popular response. It was an effort to convince the person that you don't need their company, that you'd rather be by yourself anyway since you were 'born alone'.
Many African cultures believed that all humans are born with a spiritual twin and that physical twins were a supernatural occurrence of that spiritual being becoming physical. So really, we all have a twin, and are never alone.
Ironically, 'You Born Alone' is the twin of 'Leave Me Alone'.
