Celebrating the uniqueness and versatility of Black hair - our crown. Throughout Black History, and across many Black cultures in Africa and across the early Afro-diasporic population, hair and its various styles and adornments, have not only been a thing of beauty but a type of art, a statement of identity and importance, a symbol of empowerment and royalty, a form of resistance and a means of survival. I explore these themes in my art, reminding us of how hair and identity co-relate and in support of all those who fight for us to wear our hair as it naturally grows out of our heads.
