Our Mission: To identify our treasures and celebrate them on canvas
About
Hi Collectors and Appreciators!
My name is Reisha and I am a self-taught artist from the Eastern Caribbean island of Dominica,
now based in Toronto, Canada.
Central to my artistic practice is a deep fascination with Black hair — its beauty, versatility, and complexity. I’m passionate about representing Black hair through a positive lens, exploring its cultural significance
and what it has meant to my African and Afrodiasporic ancestors.
My figurative paintings showcase Black folks with intricately textured crowns of hair that invite the viewer to ask, “What is it about textured hair that makes us want to touch?”
I often use my signature hot glue gun technique to meticulously recreate the curls, coils, kinks, and knots
that make each crown unique.
Beyond my focus on Black hair, I draw inspiration from nature, my Afro-Caribbean culture, and emotion. My art honours the treasures that shape us — from the beauty of the natural world to the connections we share through identity and history.
